Portugal might not be the first place that comes to one’s mind talking about crude Garage-sounds. Still, os Conjuntos YéYé - who often took their name of the local high school - created some most enjoyable tunes, although "Shakin’ ol Over" (sic) or "I Can Tell" probably won’t kick bottom as Johnny & the Pirates or Ireland’s own Mad Lads do. Furthermore, Portuguese platters from the 60s are famous to look nearly transparent and to be worn out to the max, and the nations’ recording-facilities probably were other than state of the art, so prepare for some crackle and hiss. I have picked sounds that were overlooked by the creators of the Portuguese Nuggets-series (together with "The Wild 60's Sounds From Portugal" the only compilation-effort covering Portugal) but still are well worth listening, at least to my ears. (I know Groovie-Records has published the complete Os Tartaros’ discography on LP, but I’m sure you won’t go through tedious instros such as “Waltz at Midnight”).
