UC244a/b – Hala Hala, part 10
I hope you’re ready for another Asian tour with 58 tracks that have never appeared on any compilation so all should be new to your ears (unless you don’t comb the net as I do). This time, I’ve included several tunes that sound less Hala Hala but are a little bit more on a moody side though I hope not kitschy or mainstream which is kind of hard to judge for me, with Asian music. At any rate, you get Guitars Galore and powerful drumming, too, if you can spot it, as the instruments stay always in the background of the mixing. Also, just a few 70s tracks have slipped in, but I guess you won’t even notice. I have to say thank you to many blogspots specialized in Asian 60s music such as madrotter. blogspot - treasure-hunt.blogspot - popoknet.blogspot - pop60anrare.blogspot, and many youtube channels where you can dig up many more uncompiled tunes. But now, ‘nuff said, enjoy another trip to Asia!

UC245 – US Garage Gems, pt. 33
So what happened to the Official editors of Official comps? Since months, I have seen no new outings that didn’t mostly repeat the famous staples (amongst Garage aficionados, at least). Has the cropping definitely been done? Are there questions like copyright or audio quality that prevent? Or pending ebay auctions? Or some hoarder’s philosophy of “keep-it-all-to yourself”? Anyway, here’s 28 more tunes I’m quite sure you have never heard before (unless you posses the original vinyl, that is) and you will get only here (at least in form of a theme-based set with a booklet and much info and pics). I know the well of US gems is still far from running dry and I hope I’ve selected some smashy tunes, with high garage factor (and – sometimes - personal ratings much better than the “official” votes in TeanBeatMayhem). So loosen seatbelts, and here we go again……

UC246 – (Whacky) Beats from the Boot, pt. 8
I’m afraid you better learn Italian to get all the fun out of this double set with all songs sung in Italiano (except 1 in German and 1 in Brucolino, the “English” as spoken by the Italian community in Brooklyn). So this compilation is a homage to my Italian friends, specially to Massimo of Misty Lane fame who’s in the hospital at this moment, I hope he will get better soon. As expected, you will hear a hodgepodge of nifty oddities of all genres, though to tear you out of the wacky swamp I’ve thrown in just the right few of serious songs i.e. Garage tunes, you’ll decide. Exceptionally, time ranges from 1958 to 1972 tho’ I guess you won’t even notice. For the rest, King of this comp is the underrated Peppino di Capri, I hope you agree with me, but still I think there should be a lot of tunes you might dig, even if you’re not master of the Italian language (at least, the booklet is in English).

Interlude - Mod Party! Vol. 5 – 8
Maybe Shake! Shout! and Monkiss! would have been an apt title, or Jerk, Shimmy Shimmy and Shu Fly Shu! At any rate, I guess song titles like Can Your Monkey Do the Dog and Do The Push And Pull say it all… so here we are back again with 100 rare-as-hell tunes picking up were Mod Part Vol. 1 – 4 left us quite exactly 4 years ago.* I find it hard to tag this genre of mostly highly danceable tunes, sure it would not be pigeon- holed Black Music as nearly half of the combos are whities, not Garage, tho’ often a mayhem much worse, not Soul, not Boogaloo, not MOR pop, not Funk, so I just name it Mod Music, as I believe this was the music UK Mods listened (and danced) to in the 60s. UC247 – Scraping the Beer-Beat-Barrel, Teil 5
Could it really get worse? Listening to this new set you will understand why I named this series “Scraping the Barrel”. Looking for more uncompiled songs from Germany, I found some unheard punk tunes, but I admit the rest at the bottom of the barrel is often confining to Schlagermusik which is a typical German tradition featuring wordings penned to put the listener in a groovy mood and make him laugh, and heaps of humpta humpta to make him drink more beer. I’m not offended if maybe that’s not your cup of tea (neither it’s mine), and I hope my German speaking followers won’t ditch these here songs for being downright stupid ( - not all tho, the 5 Tops, Fietz Team, Norman Douglas, Flo deCologne and Homburg sport splendid, (half)serious lyrics! -) . Time ranges from 1963 to , exceptionally, 1972 which means this set is a hodgepodge of various genres. Don’t let the bad audio quality of the first two tracks put you off, I promise after it will definitely get better (any info on the acetate is most welcome). And don’t ask me to translate the song about Hamburg’s red light district St. Pauli, celebrated by Floh de Cologne as “My hole to the world”…. (“Da hau’n wir ordentlich druff / geh’n auf Spesen in den Puff/ ach wie gut dass keiner weiß / dass Karl Saubermann ich heiß”) … WulleBulle (Volle Pulle) !!!

Here we go again with 90 female voices tunes I have collected since the last edition posted exactly 1 year ago. Actually it’s 88 tracks as 2 males have managed to slip in (the Missiles and Voice & Girl who at least feature some female grown). I’m happy my gals and ladies hail from all parts of the world (and from all corners of the Net, huge thanks to you-know-who), and the red thread of this triple set is their sweet voices so, again, it seemed no problem to me to present them all in alphabetical order, and mix pre Beat Teener 45s with 60s Beat, Garage, Soul, Dance music, Pop-MoR, Schlagers and even echoes of Reggae. interlude - Lindy* Lee's Lost & Beloved, Vol. 4
I’ve often asked myself why privately made compilations are so much better and much more interesting than the "official” ones. I admit the audio quality is what you get, but chances are good that you won’t have heard any of the tunes here, unless you follow Linda Lee’s youtube channel or fb-site, that is. Our girl Linda excels for her extraordinary taste (i.e. just like mine) and I know she’s combing the net for uncompiled Garage gems everyday (just like me). So I’m most happy that it was a great (and fast!) collaboration between Greece and Italy, and I hope there will be follow ups # 5, 6, ecc . Genres vary from early instros to purest garage and moody psychedelic sounds, but you just wait for the last track as pre-Punkers from Lithuania The Mind’s Disorder sure will wake you up from your dreams. I hope you’ll dig the tracks I selected

UC250 (Middle) Eastern Underground
The 250th jubilee of this series could not have been celebrated in a better way. This compilation picks up where the fab "Raks! Raks! Raks!", "Waking Up Scheherazade" and "Persian Underground" have left us. So here’s 28 uncompiled Garage tunes (don’t fear lame folky sounds here!) from the Middle East and nations such as ISRAEL, LEBANON, IRAN, MAROCCo and BURMA (I know that’s FAR EAST, but to my ignorant ears all fits well). You will be surprised about the unique and very special approach by the musicians towards both melody sequences and rhythm patterns. This “eastern “approach comes alive not only in the originals but also in the cover versions; just listen to the hilarious "I’m a Believer" (track #15), and I guess you’ll know what I mean. A handful of instros tracks that glue it all together, and a few reel - to - reel demos, don’t mind the audio quality, which generally and surprisingly is quite good. I have added 2 tracks from CD - R "Guitars Of The Golden Triangle: Folk And Pop Music From Myanmar, Vol.2” and 1 song from CD - R "Iranian Alternative Music of 60's"), both available via Youtube (thanks for sharing!). UC251 – 60’s (mostly) Uncomped – US Garage Gems, Vol. 34
No collection fillers here! This new installment is not a completist’s selection but, hopefully, a fresh charge of 26 never compiled tunes (as far as I’m aware), each one definitely worth to be saved from oblivion. (thanks go out to the bloggers and youtube channels I’ve listed in the booklet. This time, I’ve snatched a few tracks off my older brother’s Rockabilly collection, and you will hear some black musician bands, some intros, and some ballads as well. To my ears, all tunes are huge in their own right, and each one has written GARAGE in bold letters all over. Enjoy the set brothers and sisters! (and give me some sign of life!)

Linda Lee’s Lost & Beloved, pt. 5
..after Lindy Lou Lindy Lee and Linda Lee, I finally got it right! So here we are again with a bunch of astonishing garage nuggets saved from oblivion. Thx to Linda (I don’t reveal her private name) who, from the end of the world, succeeds in digging them gems up, I don’t know where, not by fishing in the usual blogs and youtube channels, of course (and she drives me mad since she won’t tell me, ha ha). Since our last cooperation, in just one month time, she managed to find 30 more unissued tunes. I honestly think, after garagetapes is wintersleeping and Dan’s Garage has slowed down , she’s the leader! As usual , you’ll get tunes of different genres, from 61 on, even 2 pieces from 72, always chosen with great taste and connaissance and her very own personal touch, if you know what I mean…. UC252 - African Beat Combos
Well, although one might expect that African Beat Combos are predominately black musicians, since most of the bands I collected hail from South Africa, we’re talking about whities, I’m afraid (remember Apartheid?). So I decided to feature some black bands from Gambia, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, and Madagascar, too. All in all, I think we get an interesting and quite varying mix of black and white and a good charge of both cover versions and originals. I didn’t repeat tracks that were picked up on the (few) official Africa-compilations (Czazumbi ; Savage Sounds from South Africa) tho’ some might have appeared on the RockInBeat anthologies and while connoisseurs of ZA Beat will be familiar with most of the groups, still I hope the tracks I selected might have slipped. At any rate, I believe this installment is as valid as, say, compilations featuring Australian or Canadian groups (I wonder if the Black Devils were all black musicians, which would add a little ironic note..) Umm! Umm! Yeah!

Hello friends of German Beat sausages! I’m aware volume 6 presents a hodgepodge of all styles and genres but that’s what you get when you’re scraping the bottom of the barrel, right? So prepare for unknown acetates, budget beat covers, freaked out porn film - pardon Sweden film - producers, christian bands (5 trax!), desperate attempts to jump on the Beat train, promo flexis et al. Exceptionally, I have featured some tracks from the early 7os in the final part of each CD, but if you (like me) detest 70s Rock, you can simply turn it off, although I thought they’d fit in well. So let’s gather all our courage and follow the Hound-Dogs’ advice: …keep the rhythm in the people / making music in the people….

UC254 a/b – Forgotten Portuguese Nuggets, pt. 2
Nearly 6 years ago, I posted the first part of "Forgotten“ Portuguese Nuggets* which, of course, picked up where the “official” Portugal comps (i.e. "The Wild 60's Sounds From Portugal" and "Portuguese Nuggets Vols. 1 - 3") had left us. So I am proud to present this follow up featuring 50 more forgotten i.e. uncompiled tracks you might never have heard (a few tracks of the major groups have appeared on anthologies which are difficult to find tho unless you live in Portugal). You might say Portugal groups mostly miss the rough edge of Garage sounds, and you might be right. On the other hand this goes also for the Zombies, the Searchers, the Hollies, and many more. Tho’ many (like Fernando Conde, Walter Behrend, Daniel Barcelar, Victor Gomes, Démonios Negros) try hard and get very close to the target, mostly you will hear a kind of softer, may I say sweeter (which does NOT MEAN lame ass!) and more romantic approach from Portugal Combos, often with unusual riff changes and melody patterns. Put some groups from the old colonies in the mix, like from Angola or Mozambique, and you’ll add good southern vibes to the Beat, pardon Yé Yé. I think the 1,2, 3 Red Ligh version by Pop 5 Incorporated shows quite well what I want to say. You might welcome the 8 pg booklet, I tried to sum up the groups’ bios and discographies and dig deeper for band pics (national discs came mostly as 4-track EPs in glossy covers!).

- Interlude – Bologna Beat
This set, which features only groups and artists from Bologna, is a companion to Lucio Mazzi’s and Moreno Spirogi Lambertini’s book "Per quelli come noi”*. The authors dug deep in the 60s Beat scene of their home turf and after one year of research now present the result in a book full of bio and recording data, names of forgotten groups who never recorded and many nice photos. For sure it’s the ultimate book on Bologna 60 groups and there will never be alike on the subject.
This set is also to honor the city that has hosted me for 3 years (2014 – 17). In the book, Bologna is called the Liverpool of Italy, and this might be right (tho’ it lacks the sea). Bologna is a friendly, small, medieval town which ranks first of universities in Southern Europe and retains a reputation as the most prestigious Italian university. With its inhabitants and students, Bologna was famous for its youth movements in art, music and politics ever since. So no wonder a huge number of groups hail from that place (after Rome and Milano, more than from any other Italian town, I guess).
I have selected one or two tracks of each artist, and my installment is not meant as a “Best of” but as a “Rarest of” sampler (which sounds like a “Best of", I hope). You might have heard 9 tracks before (if you’re an avid collector of private CDs on Italian Beat groups), but most of the tunes should be new to your ears as they were to mine, before I read the book and researched the songs. I’m sure you’ll like the first and only sampler of Bologna 60s artists. Buon ascolto!

UC255 – US Garage Gems Vol. 35
For this set, I’ve widened the time frame a little bit, so you’ll hear a few tracks one could tag rockabilly (tho’ they bear the Garage spirit in their soul], and some tracks from 1969 and even one from 1970 on the other extremity of time (which still bear the Garage spirit in their soul, too]. In between you get a mix of different tunes I think you won’t have heard anywhere else (unless you don’t comb the internet like the pathological case I am). Don’t rant about wicked audio and a few cut off endings, remember either you get it like it is or you miss it. Finally, I wonder if anyone comes up with data on the [unknown] bands. Enjoy the US groups brother and sisters, and praise all connaisseurs youtubers I have mentioned in the booklet.
